Practical skills research courses for professional screen actors

Police/Security

Taught by experienced male and female industry experienced professionals in speciality fields, you will learn a variety of the following skills that are often required for on-screen interactions:

SOLO & PAIRS

  • Arrest a suspect (inc. handcuffs, replica weapons and standard equipment)

  • Disarm a suspect passively or aggressively

  • Search a suspect for guns etc

  • Exit a police vehicle in a passive and aggressive situation

  • Escort a prisoner to a police car and put them in

  • Draw a prisoner from a police car and escort them away

  • Lose and retrieve a lost weapon

  • Draw, hold, aim, fire, load, unload, check - a range of standard replica handguns for screen

  • Shoot someone (inc. alternate stances & follow up radio calls for back-up or med. support)

  • Fire while moving from cover to cover as an individual & pair while standing, kneeling or lying down with a replica handgun

  • Make various police radio calls (responding to alert, call back up, call med. support etc)

Medical Responders (Nurse/Doctor/Paramedic)

Taught by experienced male and female industry experienced professionals in speciality fields, you will learn a variety of the following skills that are often required for on-screen interactions:

  • Wear and use a stethoscope properly inc. take a pulse

  • Doctor giving a patient a basic medical check inc. ears with an Otoscope, throat with manual or mechanised tongue depressor, checking breath in lungs, blood pressure, heart rate, what normal parts of the body to press inc. how and why

  • Respond to a patient who appears in pain and call for assist

  • Routine bedside check for a nurse on a patient inc. interacting with basic equip inc. I.V. etc

  • Arrive at an emergency scene and undertake initial deployment of emergency equipment

  • Take a temperature in several ways with several kinds of temperature instruments

  • Pretend to offer CPR both manually and using replica emergency equipment

  • Pretend to prepare a needle for injection 

  • Pretend to prepare/administer an I.V. at an accident scene or in a hospital situation

  • Dispose of a needle post injection and other medical refuse post treatment

  • As a pair or team, put a pretend patient onto a stretcher for transport from the floor

  • How to offer a status update to retrieving personnel as you exit an ambulance on the move

  • Offer a status briefing to retrieving personnel in a conference

  • Respond on the radio to a call received in an ambulance

  • Exit an ambulance arriving at a scene

  • Put a gurney into an ambulance and re-enter the vehicle and exit the scene
